America The Beautiful - Remembering Memorial Day

I wrote a while ago, but it is still appropriate for Memorial Day! Enjoy!

If this great country we call home in a while not to run, I highly recommend it. My husband and I had such an opportunity in May and we jumped on it. We are a very windy, chilly Tuesday morning started out Boise.

We chose path through a blizzard in Wyoming we took (I later found out this cute little summer storm, Montana 22 inches of snow left), Nebraska, Missouri, where gas prices a whopping 3.58 dollars per gallon and the tornado warning hit. In every part of the country and people is a different scenario - it is a pleasure to rediscover it more than once.

We are Illinois, where we have breakfast, which seemed to be in a financial time warp off to got a little happy place. 2.98 a gallon gas prices and a delicious was not cost an arm and leg and your first born was $ breakfast.

Unfortunately, we had to move on .... When you live out west, you miles and deserts, mountains and miles of nothing between cities to be used. However, when you head east, you have a denser population and therefore more cities and highways, especially at restaurants is expected to provide. Not so! Freeways we gladly followed, green hills, lots of trees and fields, but alas, apparently not eat these people were rolling through. There are rarely available to get out to eat or went to get gas. It encourages us to stop the stock when we have made, so once we got to Virginia, so we could have opened his own cheese and cracker shop.

We finally Alexandria, Virginia late Friday evening arrive just in time for Memorial Day weekend events. Alexandria is just outside our nation's capitol on Memorial Day weekend and what a great place to be.

There are activities for all the family were going everywhere. Street musicians, street magicians, a parrot rescue organization, train rides and colonial guide you past Alexandria to take over and visit the cemetery was only a little of recreational opportunities. Alexandria "Potomac fun side of being" famous for and it certainly lives up to its reputation.

Riverfront is full of life and entertainment. All small shops, outdoor cafes and restaurants, among the original "old town" is still intact will get a lot. Some still cobblestone streets and many buildings still of the old colonial homes. They are kept immaculately and it Benjamin Franklin to George Washington or perhaps see one of these homes would seem out of step not uncommon. City of preserving our early American heritage is a remarkable work.

Washington DC itself was alive with people from everywhere in the country. Rolling Thunder was the most visible and certainly audible. The organization its POW / MIA issues, promotion and support of veterans from all wars in 20 years. They roared into town on their Harleys, his appearance to his name living. Quite a sight to behold!

All parade speeches, and ceremonies that honor our fallen heroes were presented in addition to, Arlington National Cemetery has left a deep impression on me. As we each other out with hundreds of visitors walked through the gate to pay their respects, I was overwhelmed by intense sadness and gratitude.

My husband is retired military and now like so many other families, we also care about many people we are fighting in Iraq. Arlington National Cemetery is such a vivid picture of just how many men and women give their lives for years to ensure the freedoms that we take for granted.

As I walked through the rows on rows of headstones, I the country's diversity and life that we pursue and are fun to reflect on. It's true what they say, "Freedom is not free." I believe that the best way for our heroes to show our gratitude and appreciation the way to get out and enjoy all this country has to offer. Take a drive - the "amber waves of grain" go see "Purple Mountain Majesty" and "fruited plains." We actually named "America, the Beautiful" live in the country are eligible.
